This is one of the most iconic Porsche racing cars, developed based on the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 model. It was specially designed for racing under the FIA Group 4 regulations and became one of the most successful racing versions of the 911. Two of these cars were delivered to the U.S. just one week before the 24 Hours of Daytona race. One was entered by the Penske team (which did not finish), and the other, car number 59 from Brumos Racing (driven by Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood), won the race and became one of the most famous examples of this model. In 1973, the RSR 2.8 dominated endurance racing, winning the 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, the Targa Florio, and many other events.<\/p>\n

This was the car that proved the 911 platform could be incredibly competitive against more powerful rivals. Moreover, the RSR 2.8 was the first racing 911 to feature ultra-wide bodywork and extended wheel arches, which later became the standard for future racing and high-performance versions.<\/p>\n
